Coachella Valley Water District (CVWD)

Project Summary

Water Reclamation Plant 7
Aeration Improvements (2022)
The existing CVWD reclamation plant is located southwest of and adjacent to the intersection of Avenue 38 and Madison Street in the City of Indio, California.
The WRP No. 7 Aeration Improvements project will consist of a new blower and control building that will house the process blowers and offices. The project will also include new below ground piping to the blower control building from the existing aeration basins to the south. The building will occupy approximately 9,000 square feet and is expected to be founded on shallow continuous and isolated spread footings with slab-on-grade floor. The building will be constructed on a graded fill pad that will extend approximately 115 feet north into the adjacent retention pond. Approximately 13 feet of imported fill soil will be necessary to construct the pad. The completed pad will have graded side slopes on the north and west sides that descend into the retention pond bottom.

IFE Role

IFE performed the design-level geotechnical investigations for the proposed treatment plant improvements. The primary geotechnical issue for this project is approximately 9 feet of undocumented fill soil within the proposed blower and control building area that should be removed and recompacted. In addition, the project will require approximately 13 feet of import fill soil to achieve final grades.
